Design of Tie Plate for Use with AREMA Rail Section
Tie plate, base plate or sole plate is a steel plate used between the rail and tie or sleeper. The tie plate increases bearing area and holds the rail to correct gauge. Moreover, rail tie plate can also be used to extend the longevity of a new track installation so that the safety for passengers and railway workers can be better achieved. The tie plate usually works with anchor bolt or railroad spike by sustaining the load of a rail track and transferring part of the load to the tie sleeper so that the rail will be steadier and maintained in the right gauge.
